Stormbreak - A happy child!

Stormbreak aims to improve children's mental health through movement, equipping them with sustainable, transferable skills and coping strategies to thrive during the complex demands of growth into adult life. Stormbreak activities are based around five key mental health concepts: hope and optimism, self-worth, resilience, self-care and relationships.

Stormbreak aims to reduce the stigma around mental health by equipping children with language and skills that allow them to recognise, respond and regulate their feelings.

Core beliefs:

  • Children are happier when they move more.
  • Movement improves children's mental wellbeing and teaches them essential emotional and physical life skills.
  • Schools can be wonderful environments for movement for mental health.
  • Everyone has a part to play in sharing responsibility for improving children's current and future mental health.
  • The core values, attitudes, beliefs and culture of the school matter.
  • Lasting change happens within a whole school approach.

5 Mental Health Concepts

  • Hope and Optimism - Hope & Optimism helps us to see that things can change, and we can believe in our potential now and in the future.
  • Self-worth - Self-Worth is how we feel about ourselves inside, knowing we are important, special and that we matter.
  • Resilience - Resilience is about developing inner strength and courage and growing our ability to keep trying and 'bounce back' from difficult situations.
  • Self-care - Self-care is looking after our mental and physical health, noticing our feelings and choosing ways to care for ourselves.
  • Relationships - Relationships are the connections we have with the people around us that help us to feel special and safe.
