Dear Parents and Carers

I can't believe we have already been open for two terms, and hope you share my belief that the pupils have made huge progress both academically and from a SEMH perspective.

Looking forward into next year, we plan on continuing with our current therapeutic and enrichment activities, but will be able to offer Rebound therapy, Yoga and Forest School to name but a few.

We are sad to be losing two highly valued staff members in Connor and Ciara but wish them every success for the future.

Monday (21st July) is our last day of term, and we will be holding a non-uniform day.

Our first day back for the students will be the 8th of September.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support, and wish you all a happy, restful summer.

Richard Triggs

Head of Provision

Summer Fayre

Cury School’s first Summer Fayre was a big success bringing together families, staff and pupils for an afternoon of fun and community spirit. It was lovely for parents and carers to join us at an event where the pupils could show off their brilliant artwork and baking skills! The children enjoyed taking part in competitions, sensory activities and soaking the teachers! A huge thank you for attending and supporting us to make it a special event for the children, and for your contributions which raised £149 to buy resources for the school.

Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality play a vital role in your child’s academic success and personal development. Being present in school every day ensures that students do not miss out on valuable lessons, activities, and social interactions that support their learning journey.

This week, our whole school attendance was 98% - well done!

Thank you for your continued support in making sure your child attends school regularly and arrives on time. Together, we can help every student reach their full potential.

Please read the following letter, originally sent out in January, which explains the changes that came into effect in August 2024 -

Our classes

Poldhu

Poldhu class have been learning about how their energy levels are related to different emotions. They have been exploring their senses to find different smells, sounds, textures, objects and movements that can increase and decrease their energy levels. This week, the children have been learning how to keep beach safe and practiced their litter picking skills at the park. In English, Poldhu class have been reading ‘The Body Book’ by Hannah Alice to learn all about the human body. They wrote sentences including the facts they’d learnt and organised features to create their own non-chronological report! Some of the children witnessed a heart and lung dissection and enjoyed learning more facts about the organs. It has been so lovely to see the children choosing regulation tools to support their wellbeing and coming together to support each other. We are so proud of every pupil as they have all made superb progress this year and we look forward to greeting them back in September to continue supporting them.

Gunwalloe

What a fun packed, busy end to the school year we have had in Gunwalloe class! There has been so much going on and lots of wonderful experiences.

We all really enjoyed the summer fair and the swim gala and had great fun when the weather was warm with a water play fight. In class we have finished off our topic on dragons and learnt to tell the time to 5 minute intervals. We have continued to focus on our school values and spent lots of time developing our social interactions and life skills -where we have been working on developing methods of communication and learning strategies to support our emotional regulation. Its been a fantastic end to the year and we are very proud of all the children for how much progress they are making at Cury.

Polurrian

What an absolutely brilliant way to wrap up the academic year for Polurrian Class! You've all put in such incredible hard work, and it truly showed in your fantastic efforts.

A real highlight has been all the outdoor learning you've embraced, making the most of our wonderful surroundings. Your final, memorable session at the lake was a perfect way to finish off those adventures. Then, on Friday, you absolutely shone at the school fayre! Your teamwork and energy were amazing, whether you were busy selling t-shirts or tempting everyone with your delicious cakes. You truly made it a huge success!

It was also fantastic to see so much fun and excitement at the school's first-ever swim gala. Everyone gave it their all and had a blast.

We are so proud of everything you've achieved this year. We hope you all have an amazing summer break, filled with rest and fun. We can't wait to see your smiling faces back here for an exciting new academic year.

Online Safety

We will be happy to support you with any online safety questions that you might have.

iPads

iPads are a familiar fixture in many households and classrooms, offering access to educational tools, entertainment, and the internet in one sleek package; however, with great versatility comes notable risk. From accidental spending and data privacy breaches to excessive screen time, there’s plenty for parents and educators to consider before handing over the device. While Apple offers built-in safeguards such as ‘Screen Time’ and ‘Family Sharing’, these features must be correctly set up and actively managed to be effective.

Our guide below walks you through these options and highlights some of the more surprising ways children can get around restrictions – including with Siri – while offering practical advice on how to help keep young users safe and healthy online.

Parent and Carer Support

Whether it’s sunny days at the beach or fun in the paddling pool, children are naturally drawn to water. But with excitement comes risk. This guide brings together 10 clear, practical tips to help parents and educators protect children around water – whether that’s at home, on school trips or on holiday.

Backed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK, the advice includes knowing what beach flags mean, avoiding inflatables in open water, and learning to ‘float and call’ in an emergency. With a focus on prevention and supervision, this guide is a must-read for summer safety and beyond.

Cornwall Parent/Carers Forum

The new Cornwall Parent Carer Forum website is now live. It is a space made by parent carers for parent carers, with helpful information, updates, and ways to get involved or just feel a bit more connected. You can find out more here. The Forum has launched a survey to hear directly from parent carers of children and young people with SEND. The Survey can be found here.
