Dear Parents and Carers
It’s been lovely to have 4 new students join our ‘Cury family’, and I believe they have been made to feel really welcome. It’s likely that we will have a few more students join us in September, and we are working collaboratively with the County SEN team to ensure that this is undertaken at a pace that is beneficial to all parties.
Years ago, I remember the end of the summer term was a period to wind down in terms of activities, but we seem to be taking the opposite approach which is great for both the staff and the learners. Details of many of these activities are outlined below.

Special Visit from Our Local Police!
Yesterday, we had a very exciting visit to school – our local Police Community Support Officer, Julia, came to spend the morning with us!
The visit was a great opportunity for us to learn more about how the police help keep our community safe and to build positive relationships with the people who protect us. Officer Julia was so friendly and kind, and she answered lots of brilliant questions from the children – from “What do you do every day?” to “Have you ever caught a robber?”
There was even a fun fingerprinting activity that everyone could try if they wanted to. We learnt how the police use fingerprints to help solve crimes – and we got to take home our own fingerprint certificate!
The most exciting part of the day was the police car parked on the school grounds. The pupils were allowed to sit inside, and Julia even turned on the flashing lights and let us hear the different sirens. It was VERY loud – but also very cool!
A huge thank you to Julia for coming to visit us. We learnt so much and had lots of fun too.

Next week we will be celebrating Arts Week 2025!
From Monday to Friday, the school will be buzzing with creativity as each class takes part in special art activities. Whether it's painting, drawing, baking, or making items, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
We will be working on a special art project that they’ll get to proudly display — and even sell — at the Summer Fair! These handmade treasures make perfect gifts for friends and family, and all the money raised will go towards supporting more fun projects and resources for our school.
Be sure to visit the Summer Fair on the afternoon of Friday 11th July where students’ art projects will be available to buy. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate their hard work — and pick up a one-of-a-kind creation!
Let’s get ready for a week full of imagination, colour, and fun. We can’t wait to see what our brilliant young artists come up with!

Poldhu
Poldhu class have been focusing on teamwork and collaboration recently and have shown amazing listening skills and effort in their lessons! At the end of each day, they get together for circle time to celebrate each other's accomplishments. In English, they are reading 'The Dinosaur that pooped a planet' by Tom Fletcher and are really excited to write their own version of this story next week and publish their own book! In art, they have been learning about colour mixing and had lots of fun creating a Jackson Pollock style collaborative artwork using the left-over paint! The children are really enjoying 'Stormbreak' activities which combine movement with mental health. They enjoyed attending Nancealverne's sports day and taking part in some sensory races. I was super impressed at how well the children did in their new 'Boogie' sessions, getting their bodies moving to their favourite music!

Gunwalloe
We have had a busy few weeks in Gunwalloe class. It has been lovely getting to know our new pupils and we have had some lovely moments building new relationships. They are all doing so well having a go at lots of new routines and structures in our setting.
In Maths we have been thinking about money and calculating with notes and coins and in English we have introduced our new text ‘Tell me a Dragon’, which has fantastic illustrations and descriptions of dragons. We will be creating some of our own amazing artwork and descriptions over the next few weeks, all inspired by this book.
Since returning to school after the half term, our school value focus each day has been RESPECT- and thinking carefully about what Respect may look and feel like for us all in lots of different situations. We are learning everyday and talking about it with each other really helps us to understand our feelings and those of others.

Polurrian
What a fantastic start to the second half of the summer term it's been in Polurrian Class! It's wonderful to see how quickly all the students have settled back into our routine after the half-term break.
We're especially thrilled to announce that we've welcomed a new student into our class! They've integrated wonderfully, and it's been heartwarming to see how well everyone is getting along and helping them feel at home.
In English, we've embarked on an exciting new topic: How to Train Your Dragon. This book has been a massive hit with the class, and it's been brilliant to see how much everyone is enjoying the story and enthusiastically engaging with their learning.
The weather has also been incredibly kind to us, allowing for plenty of outdoor fun and brighter days. We're certainly looking forward to all the exciting things we have planned for the rest of this term!
