Dear Parents and Carers

It's been a busy few weeks at Cury school with all of the activities that the students have been undertaking.

Furthermore, we have begun the EHCP review meetings, and it's been great to spend the time reviewing the progress that the students are making.

We now have a bit more breakout space (Bell tent) to the grounds at the rear of the school and there are lots of plans to make this area more appealing to our learners (watch this space).

This week, we held our first Key stage one (Poldhu) assembly in the hall as opposed to the classroom.  Many certificates were presented and the pupil's behaviour was impeccable.  It was lovely to see them celebrating each other's success.

As always, thanks for your ongoing support and please feel free to get in touch if there is anything you'd like to discuss.

Richard Triggs

Head of Provision

Tesco Stronger Starts

We were lucky enough to be granted funding for a bell tent from the Tesco Stronger Starts programme.

This will be an additional space for children to access learning in a calming, sensory environment.

Now that the warmer weather is here, and the sun has come out we need

to make sure that our children are protected from the more harmful effects

of the sun.

If you are able to provide suncream, please could you put this in your child’s bag. This can be returned on a daily basis or kept at school in your child’s locker.

We also ask that parents and carers apply suncream to their children before the start of the school day and send your child in with a named sun hat to protect their head.

We will be sending home a suncream application consent form for you to complete and return.

Gunwalloe

We have had a great start to the term in Gunwalloe Class. Our value focus for the last few weeks has been 'Cury Kindness'. We have been thinking about what KINDNESS looks like with our bodies, our actions our non-verbal communications and our words. How kind actions make us feel, how they make others feel and how kindness always creates and spreads happiness. Our History learning has taken us back a long time ago, as we are now learning lots of interesting facts about the ancient Maya period. In English we are continuing to read stories written by Roald Dahl, this term we are reading 'George's Marvellous Medicine'. We are looking forward to designing and creating our own marvellous potions and writing some instructions about how to make them. We have been doing some tricky Maths learning, thinking about our bonds to ten to help us calculate with larger numbers. In Science we have been setting up experiments to see what plants actually need to be healthy, we are enjoying observing how they grow and change over time. We have also really enjoyed  our swimming lessons and having a great time trying out our swimming skills at the Lake.

Polurrian

The fantastic students in Polurrian class have returned from their Easter break feeling refreshed and eager to learn here at Cury! It's been lovely to see them reconnect with their classmates and jump back into school life with such enthusiasm.

Our catering lessons continue to be a popular part of the week. This term, we've started an important and engaging topic: "Making Healthier Choices." This week, the classroom was buzzing as the children made their own yummy smoothies. They enjoyed choosing their favourite fruits, learning about the good things inside each ingredient, and, naturally, tasting their creations! We even talked about how different fruits and vegetables can give us the energy we need for our busy days of learning and playing.

Away from the kitchen, the sounds of music has been filling the Polurrian classroom! During their music lessons, the children have been enthusiastically trying out a variety of instruments. From shaking maracas to strumming ukuleles, it's been wonderful to see their curiosity and their growing musical abilities. This hands-on exploration is not only a lot of fun but also helps them develop their coordination and an appreciation for different kinds of music.

Looking forward to the summer term here at Cury, we have lots of exciting things planned. We'll be exploring our local surroundings with some outdoor learning adventures, getting creative with art projects inspired by the beautiful Cornish countryside, and of course, making the most of the warmer weather with some fun outdoor activities. We're looking forward to sharing more details about these upcoming experiences with you soon!
