Issue 03

We have now been open for 4 weeks and the students are really beginning to gain in confidence with regard to their learning.  I am constantly in and out of all lessons and it's great to see the relationships that the students are developing with each other and the staff.

We have started to tap into the plethora of local resources that are available to us including use of the park next door to the school, Trevassack lake, the local leisure centre and have undertaken some community walks around Cury.  Being a satellite provision of Nancealverne, we are fortunate in that we can also start accessing their hydrotherapy pool and soft play area.

I'd like to remind you that we finish for half term on Friday the 14th of February and will reopen to students on Monday the 24th of February.

Thank you for all of the support and encouragement that you have shown us to date.

Best wishes

Richard (Head of Provision)

Poldhu Class

Gunwalloe and Polurrian will continue with swimming on a Tuesday and Sailing/Kayaking/SUP on a Friday.

On Tuesdays, please can all children bring in a swimming kit and a towel.

On Fridays, please can all children please bring a swimming kit, towel, wetsuit (if they have one) and a pair of old shoes suitable for getting wet.

NSPCC Number Day

We will be celebrating the NSPCC number day on Friday 7th February 2025. We will be engaging in lots of Maths games and activities to recognise the day.  Perhaps you could wear your favourite football shirt, or wear your favourite BBC Numberblocks colour, or even just non-school uniform. If your child would prefer to wear their school uniform, this is also fine.

This will be a fun day, so we are not asking for any donations, but if you would like to contribute to the charity, please click here:

Our classes

Poldhu

Poldhu class have continued to settle in incredibly well! They have been working hard in their lessons and really enjoyed Active Maths, practicing their addition skills! They have been learning lots of life skills in the kitchen including following recipes and measuring ingredients while making some sweet treats - and then eating them of course! Sian has been so impressed with their teamwork and sharing skills during fun activities including painting, circle time and making an exploding volcano! The children have also enjoyed their enrichment activities such as music therapy and exploring the local park. They are all super excited to start swimming and soft play next week!

Gunwalloe

In Gunwalloe class we have really enjoyed beginning our wonderful enrichment provisions. We have had so much fun during our swimming sessions, learning to play alongside and with each other and have enjoyed adventures with friends when we visited Trevassack boating Lake . In class we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians and how the river Nile was so important for the ancient Egyptian civilisation. We have made an Ancient Egyptian Shaduf which they used to lift water out of the Nile and have also made our own paper in a similar way to how they made papyrus paper out of plants that grew next to the Nile. We have learnt about Egyptian Gods and have designed our own. What do you think of our Ancient Egyptian God and Goddess designs?

Polurrian

What an amazing week it has been in Polurrian class! We kicked things off with an exciting start to Trevassick Lake, where the students had the opportunity to get on a boat—and even drive it! To top it off, we dove into swimming lessons, and the students showcased their impressive swimming skills. In English, we’ve been learning about the features of instructions, and it has been fantastic to see this knowledge shine through in our catering lessons. The class made delicious shortbread and fairy cakes, and the results were outstanding! I’m so proud of everything they’ve achieved, and I can’t wait to see what next week holds. Keep up the great work, Polurrian class!
